Mostly you're giving the public access to your brain. But there are some things that it's easier to have written down.

Inevitably, some people are going to want help that's outside your ability and/or job description. You might find it useful to have contact information for the following local organizations:

  • Computer stores
  • Repair people
  • Computer training
  • Employment services
  • ISPs
  • Web designers

Try to put frequently requested information into little pamphlets and/or onto a webpage. This not only saves you time; people can use the information at home, and it's a nice resource for your successor as well. Some possibilities:

  • How to get & use an email account
  • Glossary of computer terms for newbies
  • Word processing FAQs
  • Virus safety 101
  • Internet resources for high school students

Depending how fancy you get, putting together the information for these pamphlets can be similar to preparing material for a course. For pointers on that, check out our Class Preparation section.
