Prostate Health

by Peter Benner and WEBmadman

Hi there:
This is Peter Benner, sales representative for Monteagle Herbs.
I handle Internet communications for Tina Sentoukas, the farm's herbalist/owner.
I have also had recurring prostate problems (non-cancerous) and I credit the farm's organic small flowered willow herb (epilobium parviflorum)for a great part of the success in treating this chronic problem. Let me start off by saying that the fact that the herb is organic is vital to the effectiveness of the cure. It means that you're not introducing further contamination or toxins into an already compromised organ that is very small, though integral as a detoxifier in its own right.

Small flowered willow herb (epilobium parviflorum) has been used for many years in Germany, where physicians prescribe it to patients. It helps eliminate toxins and bacteria in the prostate and reduced the swelling of benign prostatic hyperplasia. It also slows down the growth of tumours at the prostatic cancer stage.

The big difficulty with my prostate is that I sit at a computer for long periods of time, and then when I'm not on the computer, I'm on the road driving to various sales appointments on behalf of the farm.
Lack of circulation plays a key role in the build-up of stress in this organ. It sits around for long periods of time, doing nothing. It is an absorbent little organ and if the liver isn't processing toxins efficiently, it can absorb them and build up bacteria inside of it. It actually processes toxins itself and can get bogged down very easily because of its sponginess and size of a walnut.
This is where the small flowered willow herb plays such an important role. The active ingredient in this herb is beta-silosterol. The herb contains high levels of this plant constituent. It reduces swelling and inflammation of the prostate gland and at the same time, fights infection in the bladder and urethra, too. Because the urethra goes through the prostate, it picks up any bacterial overload that is present. It also gets constricted because the prostate is swelling around it. Hence, the difficulty in pissing, the burning sensations and other symptoms.
Prostates can also be affected if you have an overgrowth of bacteria or yeast (candida albicans) in your system. A yeast eradication program, elimination of sugars, etc; from your diet (see below) in combination with taking the small flowered willow herb, will alleviate the stress on the poor little prostate.

Dosage for the small flowered willow herb: Take the cut and sifted version of the herb. It is more potent this way, says our herbalist Tina Sentoukas. It is prepared into a tea....one teaspoon of the small flowered willow herb in one cup of water that has just been taken off the boil. Steep the teaspoon of herb in water just off the boil, for 15 minutes. Strain and drink one cup, three times per day. One pound of herb will last for a month at this rate. A pound of the herb costs $30.00, not including shipping. In powdered form, the herb costs $31.00.
If you feel this is more convenient to take, we have it available. Your dosage of the powdered herb is four capsules per dose, three times a day.Tina our herbalist personally recommends the tea, as drinking the medicinal beverage will help flush out the urinary tract, which can get contaminated from the buildup in the prostate.

As someone who has had prostate swelling and infection flare-ups, I recommend the following protocols: Take lots of stretching, breathing, exercise and activity breaks if you're going to be driving a lot or being a computer jockey. Keep sexually active. If you do have a bacterial infection of the prostate and don't want to engage in sex with a partner for fear of passing on the bacteria, I suggest masturbation until the problem clears up. Some doctors recommend prostate massage, too. You can either ask the doctor to do it, or do it yourself with a little practice. It will cause release of the contaminated prostate fluid and work towards reducing swelling. Some men are reluctant to do it themselves because the only way to massage the prostate is to go through the anus with your finger.
Others actually experienced "prostate orgasm" when massaging the prostate for therapeutic reasons. I have instructions for prostate self massage, if you wish to study them (see below).
These are just my personal suggestions and I do not want them to conflict with your own local practitioner. They have worked for others and may work for you. Here are some more tips: Lack of circulation is going to give your prostate little to do.
Exercise will also reduce the stress that is often associated with most prostate problems.
Eat low fat, high fibre diets. Vegetarian and vegan meals are ideal for this treatment.
Avoid excess refined sugars, alcohol, coffee, tobacco, and red meat. Get lots of zinc, vitamins C, E and B6 in your diet either as supplements or in specific foods. Pumpkin seeds are good for the prostate. Eat lots of foods containing essential fatty acids (EFA's) Flax seeds, evening primrose oil, borage oil and fish oils are also good sources of EFA's.
Hemp seeds (dehulled and raw) contain the highest amounts and best balance of EFA's in the world...the perfect balance for human health.
They are also full of easily digestible proteins and amino acids, vitamins and minerals. You can get them from: Don Wirtshafter, Ohio Hempery Inc., www.hempery.com, 1-800-BUY-HEMP 7002 S.R. 329, Guysville, OH 45735, (740)662-4367 fax(740)662-6446, or from Christina's Hemp Treats www.coolhemp.com, Killaloe, Ontario, Canada, K0J 2A0, 613-757-3044.
I can't stress enough how important diet is to prostate health. If I stray from my diet and include sugar in it, this feeds my systemic Candida yeast infection, which spreads to the prostate. Stay away from sugar wherever possible during the course of your infection. Your blood and body type may be able to handle it later. Drink lots of fresh squeezed veggie juices and vegetarian/vegan smoothies and stay away from meat, especially red meat. You will notice a difference with a disciplined diet.
Also to relax the muscles near the prostate apply chamomile essential oil behind the scrotum (underneath the sack where it attaches near the rectum. I have tried it and it works!

Other herbs that will help fight the bacteria buildup in the prostate are: schizandra, pau d'arco, a herb bark that is antifungal and antibacterial; Echinacea to boost the immune system; pygeum and uva ursi to assist in clearing up bacteria that has got out of hand and become an infection. Herbalist Tina Sentoukas can give you the recipe of supporting herbs that work synergistically with small flowered willow herb to clear up and maintain prostate health. Saw palmetto berry is another herb that works to reduce prostatic swelling, too. We have it available at the farm.

Remember, bacteria that is out of control and not being mopped up can turn into a cancerous situation.
Small flowered willow herb will address the prostate problem on several levels at once; the bladder, urethra and prostate are benefiting from the anti-bacterial, swelling reduction actions of this plant.
Note: This herb does not have side effects or contraindications.

There is a mechanical therapy that is good for the prostate and that is prostate massage. You can do it yourself or you can ask your doctor to do it. It causes the prostate to expel contaminated excess prostatic fluid and reduce inflammation and enlargement. I have instructions for self-massage. Here they are. Please do not take offence at the instructions here. It is in no way implying or recommending homosexual activity. I suggest this as a straight, heterosexual male. Some of you might be reluctant to put your finger in your rectum. This is understandable. It is however, a proven method of increasing prostate health. Consult with your MD about it if you wish.

Prostate massage:

One way of massaging the prostate is to do it in the shower. It is necessary to insert your finger (It's a good idea to cut your fingernail! The middle one is the longest, obviously and can reach the prostate easily) into the anus to reach the prostate, so you might want to accomplish this massage after first having a bowel movement and then washing oneself afterward. Hence the shower.
If you really feel it is necessary you could have an enema before the shower Turn your back on the shower stream and let the water enter into the crack of your butt until it is good and wet in the anus.
Work your finger into the anus, slowly moving in circles around the sphincter, loosening and relaxing the muscle. Don't use soap as a lubricant. It will irritate the lining of the anus.
The anus will actually lubricate itself with a clear mucus (which isn't all that clear at first, but the more you massage the inside of the anus, the more mucus that flows and the clearer it will get). Do not touch the penis as it might trigger an ejaculatory orgasm.
After the shitty mucus is cleaned away, move out of the water so that the natural lubricant is allowed to build up on the outside of the anus, making it a little easier to move around.
Now, if you feel below your balls, you can feel the penis continuing to just above the anus, feel inside the anus to where the shaft disappears to, the bulge you can feel towards the front of the anus is the root of the prostate organ. It is not unusual for the penis to semi-hard during this action.
As you are probing around, you may notice that you can move the muscles inside the anus, as you might use them to push towards an ejaculatory orgasm.
What is actually happening with the prostate massage at this point could be called a prostate orgasm as the prostate readies itself to empty prostatic fluid out of itself.
As the prostate "orgasm" starts you may feel the same sensation as when you have to urinate or defecate. Relax and let it happen, even push toward it. If you do piss it doesn't matter because you're in the shower.
The sensation will build and build until the penis convulses. After the bladder is empty, the penis will spurt out a clear mucus. It feels like ejaculation except it doesn't stop. This is what is called the prostate orgasm and it will clear bacteria-laden prostatic fluid out of the prostate and relieve the enlargement occurring there. As you can see, there is more than one path to the well. As there were probably multiple causes as to why your prostate got the way it is in the first place, so there are multiple strategies for bringing it back to health!

If you have any more questions, let me know and we'll be happy to give you some more answers.

Yours herbally,

Peter Benner
