The material in this document is intended for individuals with some knowledge of computers and networking systems, as well as some experience with the Internet. It is designed to provide technical information and to act as a technical reference for personnel who are designining, implementing, and maintaining TCP/IP networks in an Internet or Internet style Intranet environment. This technical reference is designed to be useful to an Internet Network Administrator, whether the network they manage is two computers sharing a dial-up line to an Internet Service Provider, a business LAN on a permanent connection to the Internet, a firewalled or standalone Intranet, or a global corporate network with multiple border gateways sharing internetworked communications with various autonomous networks.
